Gary Kelm has earned a BS in Chemical Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, MS in Pharmaceutical Science (Emphasis in Cosmetic Science), and PhD in Biopharmaceutics, the latter two from the James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy, University of Cincinnati. He retired from Procter & Gamble as a Research Fellow after a 35 year career, and is currently Adj. Prof. of Pharmaceutics at the Winkle College of Pharmacy. The majority of his research at P&G involved optimization of drug therapy and cosmetic benefits by designed modification of drug delivery (route of administration, site of absorption, rate of absorption) based upon pharmacodynamic data and in the optimization of personal care product performance though enhanced delivery of oral cavity, skin and hair care actives. This work included preclinical pharmacokinetic and pharmacology studies in addition to formulation development, design and pharmacokinetic analyses of clinical studies, and incorporation of these studies into IND applications. Areas of expertise include oral care, respiratory, gastro-intestinal, analgesic, and personal care products. He has taught graduate courses in Advanced Biopharmaceutics, Advanced Drug Delivery Systems, Hair and Skin Products, Oral Care Products, and OTC Topical Drug Products. He has 20+ patents, 30+ publications, two book chapters, and has mentored 30+ students to graduate degrees.
